Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) Training

Who is required to become a Breath Alcohol Technician?

Anyone performing DOT mandated breath alcohol testing in accordance with US Department of Transportation protocol must be trained as a Breath Alcohol Technician. Lifeloc recommends that any individual performing non DOT regulated breath alcohol testing in the workplace also become trained as a Breath Alcohol Technician.

What are the training requirements to become a Breath Alcohol Technician?

The BAT candidate must understand and demonstrate proficiency in using the alcohol testing protocol detailed in 49 CFR Part 40 and the training must be in accordance with the DOT Model BAT Course. The training must include both a comprehensive procedural instruction and an equipment proficiency demonstration specific to the manufacturer and model of the breath alcohol testing device being used. The student equipment proficiency demonstration must be observed "live" by the BAT instructor either in person or via webcam.

Lifeloc Master Trainers follow these requirements for both mandated and non-mandated alcohol testing as they ensure the integrity of the breath alcohol testing process.

Who is qualified to train Breath Alcohol Technicians?

Lifeloc Technologies utilizes a nationwide network of Master Trainers, who are experts in the drug and alcohol industry. All are BAT certified, Lifeloc equipment certified and have been practicing Breath Alcohol Technicians for a minimum of one year. Breath Alcohol Technician and Lifeloc Operator and Calibration Technician training is available at our factory in Denver Colorado, at your location or via the web. Web based training includes the online procedural portion and the proficiency demonstration either via web or in person with the Lifeloc Master Trainer.

For large organizations with many BATs and equipment operators across many locations, Lifeloc also offers Provisional Instructor certification which certifies an employee to train other company employees as both Breath Alcohol Technicians and Certified Lifeloc Operator and Calibration Technicians.
